Maximum images per Material in Blender
Image atlas can be useful for machine that cannot handle that many images per material. If you exceed the number of images, the material can appear pink in the viewport. Here's some limitation found on Blender 3.6

Here's some tips while using ucupaint - Use less generated textures like noise or voronoi if you want the shader compilation faster
